The St Mary’s model is one which nurtures and celebrates talent.

Acting Headmistress Mrs Sarah Matthews says: “We take pride in being part of our pupils’ development and success; as a smaller school, we relish the fact that we know each girl, which allows us to support and guide them towards achieving their goals.

“We foster a discursive, dynamic and collaborative environment for learning throughout the school; we monitor development, set individual targets, and cater to our girls’ individual needs and abilities.”

St Mary’s Junior School starts at Year 5 and has a broad curriculum with a wide range of academic studies enjoyed by all pupils. Girls are pushed above and beyond their expected level of achievement by highly qualified, inspirational and motivated teachers.  Personal support is provided via an excellent tutorial system.

In an increasingly crowded marketplace, the top A Level grades continue to allow St Mary’s pupils to challenge successfully for the most competitive courses at the Oxbridge and Russell Group universities and to access the best further training and careers. Sarah added: “Year after year, outstanding A Level results ensure the overwhelming majority of our pupils gain entry to their first-choice university.

“This is testament to the hard work and skill of pupils and teachers alike. In 2017, our Upper VI continued an excellent pass rate, and 41% of A Level entries were awarded the top grades of A* and A (nearly double the national average). More than a third of girls achieved AAB or higher, and we increased our proportion of girls achieving two or more A*s.

It is the desire to ensure all pupils achieve their potential, which is at the heart of our mission statement and ethos.”
