A frantic hour in an escape room with friends in Budapest sparked the entrepreneurial spirit of Salisbury’s newest escape game designer and owner, Charles Pitcher
For anyone who hasn’t heard of escape rooms, and there are now more than 600 in the UK, they are themed games for friends, family or colleagues to play as a team. There are puzzles and challenges for everyone to participate in, before their 60-minute time limit is up and they are ‘locked in’.
“We wanted our game ‘Spectre’ to be different from the rest though,” explains Charlie. “I wanted to appeal to as broad a spectrum of people as possible and that meant focusing on the seven aptitudes that we can excel at, meaning whether you are good at math, English, logic, interpretation, visual problems, there would be a puzzle to match. The more people involved in the success of escaping, the more fun they will have.”
‘Spectre’ can be played in teams of between two and six people: “We’ve had families come and play together, as well as hen parties, work mates and couples. Some have managed to escape while others have missed out by seconds, but it’s not about winning and losing to most people who play – it’s about having fun together.”
