The UR7s Junior Championships is back for its fifth installment, promising to be the biggest and best yet. The tournament will welcome upwards of 70 junior teams ranging from U13 to U17. Each year, numbers have jumped and so has quality, and we’re looking forward to what this year’s young charges have to bring to the party.

UR7s credo is to provide accessible opportunity for the next generation to play, learn and love the game of 7s. The boys won’t just be turning up to compete – UR7s coaches will be on hand throughout the day, imparting their International experience to the teams at specially-designed clinics. We’ll also be laying on our unique ‘Coach the Coach’ event, in which parents, coaches and managers can hone their skills from people such as Olympic Gold-winning Assistant Coach to Fiji and ex-England Captain, Chris Cracknell.

UR7s scouts will be on the hunt throughout the day to identify emerging talent and potential. Those lucky enough to be spotted will have the opportunity to join the UR7s 2017/18 Academy, which starts with a three-day summer residential camp at Epsom College. Top-up clinics continue throughout the year, with the season culminating in tournaments across the UK.

The day isn’t just rugby, though. Parents and spectators can expect the finest street food the area has to offer, with Manydown Farm selling produce from their pop-up farmers market. Rugby to us is about community and celebration and we welcome friends, family and non-rugby fans to come for a day of sport played with enthusiasm and strong sporting values, while kicking back with a cold drink and something to satisfy the palate.

Rugby 7s is one of the most thrilling sports on the planet. The marriage of athleticism and skill makes for captivating viewing, where you can’t help but be in awe of the magic the players produce. The speed and potential to score end-to-end tries makes every second of the 14 minutes count. For some, it’s rugby light, but for many it’s the game in its purest, most skillful form, rewarding evasion and visionary play so fasten your seatbelt!

Spectator entry is free for anyone who wants to come and grab a taste of rugby, food or just atmosphere, with our friends at Basingstoke RFC acting as the hosts with the most. See you there!

The UR7s Championships is at Basingstoke RFC from May 13 to 14 with the Senior tournament on Saturday, 13th, and Juniors on the Sunday, 14th.
